How to cancel Planet Fitness
There is no online route and no phone route. You have to go in.
The catch
- Varies by branch
- Exit fee
- In person only
- Minimum term
- Written notice
There is no online route and no phone route. You have to go in. You have to turn up. There is no online route, so plan for a trip to the club and someone at a desk asking why. A click is not enough. They want it in writing, and a letter that arrives late counts as the following month. Each branch runs its own cancellations, so the answer you get depends on which one you signed up at. There is a committed term. Leaving inside it usually means paying the rest of it anyway. Leaving early carries a buyout fee on top of whatever is left to run.
How to cancel Planet Fitness
- Check your online account first: some clubs allow cancelling there, depending on your membership type and home club
- Otherwise go to your home club in person and ask to cancel at the front desk
- Or post written notice to your home club, by certified mail so you keep a record
- Make sure it arrives by the 10th if you want to stop the billing on the 17th
- Keep the confirmation: processing can take up to 7 business days
How much notice they want
Written notice must reach your home club by the 10th to stop the billing on the 17th; allow up to 7 business days to process
Cancelling on the day the charge lands is already too late here. Work backwards from your renewal date.
Worth knowing
Cancellation is run per club, so the exact process varies by franchise. Commitment memberships bill for the whole minimum term and may charge a buyout fee if you leave early. Source: Planet Fitness customer service and policies pages, which block automated checking.
